Swim Ireland is seeking to appoint a Club Support Officer based in Munster, to support Swim Ireland Clubs and the Region in their day-to-day operations and to work with them in all aspects of their development (technical and administrative). It is intended that persons involved in this role shall be out and about regularly visiting Clubs and working closely with the relevant Regional Management Committee.

Swim Ireland is the National Governing Body for the Aquatic Disciplines in Ireland, recognised as such by the Irish Government, Sport Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland, the Olympic Council of Ireland and FINA and LEN, the World and European Aquatic Governing Bodies.

Some Key Responsibilities for the role include:

  • Be the key Relationship Manager for the Clubs and Regional Management Committee within Munster
  • Support the delivery of high quality events within Regions, including seminars and training events
  • Be responsible for all Club/Regional membership matters (including supporting the affiliation process) for designated Clubs and Regions
  • Provide assistance/advice on Club development issues
  • Build positive working relationships with key partners and stakeholders and others who may assist and support Swim Ireland’s Clubs and Regions
  • Support the roll out of Swim Ireland initiatives in each Region eg. Club Mark
  • Work closely with the Regional Secretary and the Regional Management Committee to maximise the Swim Ireland/Region relationship
  • Plan, prepare and deliver presentations to Clubs, Regions and others as required
  • Continually seek examples of leading good practice in Club and Regional development and engagement to feed into Swim Ireland’s programmes.

Munster Regional Club Support Officer

Reports to Membership Manager


To support Swim Ireland clubs and regions in their day to day operations and to work with them in all aspects of their development (technical and administrative).

Part Time – 25 Hours per week




Responsibilities for the Regional Club Support Officer will include:


Provide general Club support through visits, guidance and direction

·      Visit clubs and meet with committees and coaches  as required

·      Ongoing answering of queries and support

·      Support affiliation and registration of clubs ensuring policies and procedures are met and adhered to

·      Assist the set-up of new clubs

·      Work closely with and build relationships with Regional Committees to support the work in which they are trying to deliver

·      Support in development of new initiatives and training for clubs and members


Operate an efficient and supportive Club Affiliation Process

·      Support clubs through affiliation and the processing of members throughout the year

·      Ensure clubs meet affiliation/safeguarding requirements


Roll out the revised Club Mark Programme

·      Target clubs for sign up of the club mark programme

·      Visit clubs and support throughout the process

·      Keep records of all documentation submitted by clubs



·      Support Regional Committees in delivering their day to day operations

·      Support the National Children’s Officer in the implementation of  polices and delivery of new initiatives and projects

·      Support other departments in Swim Ireland in the delivery of their work, such as Competitions and Events

·      Build positive working relationships with key partners and stakeholders and others who may assist and support Swim Ireland’s Clubs and Regions

·      Support the roll out of Swim Ireland initiatives



Selection Criteria including qualifications, knowledge and experience, and skills and attributes Essential Desirable
Educated to Degree level or at least three years’ relevant experience P
Current and clean driver’s licence P
Level 1 Teaching/Coaching Aquatics or a minimum of two years’ experience in lead or managerial position within a swimming club or at a regional/national level. P
Experience of working within aquatic disciplines P
A record in sports/club development P
Experience of working as part of a team P
Experience of leading a project and seeing it through successfully P
Experience of on deck coaching P
Database use and budgeting.   P
Knowledge and experience of club development. P  
Technical knowledge of aquatics P
Personal Qualities and Skills
Comprehensive presentation, literacy, numeric and IT skills

(Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Database)

Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise with a range of personnel (eg swimmers, professionals, teachers, coaches, tutors and parents,) and build relationships P
