The Federation of Irish Sport is currently seeking applications for:

Up to 3 Directors for appointment to the Federation of Irish Sport (the “Federation”) to include a Director with a competency in finance and a Director with a competency in Public Affairs

Please note that these are voluntary positions and will require attendance at meetings approximately 6-8 times per year. The directors will be required to contribute to the work of the Federation Board in continuing the strategic development of the Federation in providing a dynamic and effective voice for Irish Sport.

Role Description – Director for appointment to the Board of the Federation of Irish Sport – Applicable to all Directors


This is a voluntary position and will mainly consist of the following:

  • Carry out duties in the best interests of the Federation of Irish Sport
  • Attend Board meetings, including sub-committee or working group meetings where relevant
  • (there are approximately 6-8 meetings per year)
  • Prepare for and contribute to these meetings
  • Undertake specific projects and pieces of work, on occasion, as they emerge from the
  • meetings
  • Act as an advocate for Irish Sport to your professional colleagues
  • Ensure sound governance by personal and collective actions

 Applicable to the Director with Financial Competency Only

  • Holds an Accountancy Qualification
  • Experience in managing the financial function of an organisation


Applicable to the Director with a Competency in Public Affairs Only

  • Experience in political communications and public affairs


Any person possessing the necessary and appropriate experience in the key competencies associated with being a Director of the Federation Board are eligible to apply for the position provided they:

  • Meet the requirements of a directorship under the Companies Act 1963-2014
  • Are not excluded for any reason from holding a directorship
  • Do not possess a criminal record inappropriate for the position within the Federation of Irish Sport
  • Have not previously been removed from the position of director within sport, or been dismissed from any other NGB or related body


The Federation of Irish Sport Board meets approximately 6-8 times a year, usually early morning during the week, at the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown, Dublin. Although this can vary depending on the individual and Federation’s activity, it’s expected that the commitment to this role will be around a day every two months.

This is a voluntary role but expenses will be paid in accordance with the Federation’s expenses policies.
